When I woke up we were not far from Wichita, Kansas where some of our group were to be dropped off. We arrived in Wichita at 1:00 A.M. and the people from this area unloaded their belongings from the bus and headed on their way. We all said goodbye, hugging one another, and then headed down the road again. It was about another 8 hours to Hamburg from here so Bob J. and I crawled up in the upper bunk and slept there the rest of the night. I awoke at 7:30 A.M. and we stopped at a truck stop at 8:00 for fuel and a rest stop. This was the very same place we had stopped on our way down and Charles asked us if we wanted to continue with the problems we were having or if we should go home and cancel the whole trip. Needless to say, we went on.
We ate breakfast while we were there. It was our last meal on the bus and of the trip. We got back on the road and headed for Hamburg which was very close now. When we arrived, everyone unpacked their belongings from the bus and loaded their cars to travel home. One more time we said our goodbyes. There was a lot of hugging and a few tears shed. We also enjoyed some last minute jokes with one another before leaving. It was difficult to say goodbye as we had become one big family in our three weeks together.
Finally, Bob J, Harold and I left for home. We stopped in Ankeny where Bob B lived and dropped off his things as he had flown home from Mexico City. We stopped at McDonalds before heading out again and had a sandwich for lunch, Harold's treat. The rest of the way home we reminisced about our adventurous trip to Mexico. I'm sure we will be talking about it for a long time.
